29 July, 2019 – Semester 1 officially began with the first class for drawing, mentored by Ms. Sonia Mallick. The class began with a round of brief introductions by everyone. We were then shown a beautiful film, housing art pieces by over 100 artists, called ‘Loving Vincent’. The film was a depiction in oil painted animations, of a young man who comes to the last hometown of painter Vincent van Gogh to deliver the troubled artist’s final letter and ended up investigating the artist’s final days. We got to see a collection of some of the finest artworks.
Our first assignment for the semester was to sketch with strokes, something that reminisced us about our hometowns. My hometown being Lucknow, the city of Nawabs, all I could think of was the intricate architecture and the rich culture, which resulted in my creation of a charcoal sketched silhouette of the Bara Imambara, paying attention to its detailed arches and design.
