Integrative Seminar and Studio – Reflection, Lines and Dots

1st August, 2019 – The first class for Integrative Seminar, mentored by Ms. Kanika Sharma began with a brief introduction and emphasis on the term ‘reflection’ and its relevance. She then told us about different forms of writing and how powerful words can be, either in the form of a seven word sentence or a 280 word tweet. The class was then shown a collection of five pictures and was asked to express what they saw in the pictures, in the form of either prose or poetry, such as limerick or a haiku. This was a fun activity as we got to hear many funny interpretations of the pictures shown to us. The pictures shown were as follows – 1) the hare with the clock from Alice in wonderland, 2) a snippet from Thor where the lady was looking at the man as he gave commands, 3) two pandas hugging each other, 4) a Japanese lady gazing at the mirror and 5) a man stopping a bunch of bullets flying towards him.

The first class for Integrative Studio, mentored by Ms. Prarthana Patil began with an activity in which each one of us were asked to express our happy place on paper using only lines and dots. At first, everyone was puzzled but later we got to know about the concept of abstract drawing and how any random lines and dots can be used to express one’s feelings and thoughts in such a strong way. The class was then asked to make 25 square boxes and makes 5 abstract drawings under 5 topics each, namely 1) my happy place, 2) thoughts when I look out of the window, 3) thoughts when I wake up in the morning, 4) thoughts when I came to college that day and 5) thoughts when I think of my best friend.
