Journalism – Newsworthy or No

14th August, 2019 – The class began with a fun activity in which each one of us were given a directions test which required a list of directions to be followed in order to complete the test. The test required a complete presence of mind in order to *successfully* complete the test, at which 95% of the class failed. Ms Seth then told us about the only error we made, which was not reading the basic instructions correctly which was – ‘read *everything* before starting’. She then told the class how important details play a role in journalism.

The class was then asked to note down 5 things from daily life that they thought were newsworthy and later a discussion was carried on what details were newsworthy and what was just information. She then told us about the principles of newsworthy which are Timelines, Proximity, Conflict and controversy, Human interest and Relevance. This activity helped us in understanding the filter between news and information.
