Integrative Seminar and Studio – Metamorphosis and Metaphors

29th August, 2019 – The Integrative Seminar class started with a discussion on the second chapter of Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. The entire class discussed how the characters showed a gradual change from that in chapter two and how everyone started to adapt to —— as a vermin. The class closely discussed the concept of adaptation and acceptance. We had an extremely fruitful discussion about metaphors and how every character in the book Metamorphosis was adapting to the changes around them. We were then given the task to read the third chapter of the book for our next class and to focus on the overall theme of the book.

The Integrative Studio class began with a discussion on the metaphors and attributes that we had written in the previous class. Ms. Patil closely critiqued each students’s metaphors. We were then asked to express out ten metaphors into abstract forms on a two dimensional surface using just black and white – either in the form on inks or paints.
